The President Danilo Medina granted the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez and Mella, in Grade of Grand Cross Silver plate to the Ambassador of the State of Qatar accredited to the Dominican Republic, H.E. Khamis Al Sahouti for his efforts to promote relations between the two countries, on the occasion of ending his mandate.

The Dominican Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Miguel Vargas organized a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and granted this Order of Merit to the Ambassador on behalf of the President of the Republic.

The Minister declared that Ambassador Al Sahouti was one of the personalities that contributed to the development and strengthening of relations between the Dominican Republic and Qatar since his mission's headline in November 2013, and thanked him for his dedication and seriousness during the performance of his functions that led to the signature of several cooperation agreements: the last ones were the Air Services Agreement signed on 06/12/2017 in the city of Colombo and the Agreement on the Exemption of Dominicans from Tourist Visa Conditions.

For his part, H.E. the Ambassador of the State of Qatar expressed his gratitude to H.E. the President of the Republic, the Dominican Government and people for their support in the exercise of his functions in Santo Domingo and for awarding him the Order of Merit, which is an honor for the State of Qatar.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassadors accredited to the Dominican Republic and representatives of the media.
