Qatar-Dominican Relations


Opening of embassies:

  • Embassy of the Dominican Republic opened in Doha in 2005 was appointed with the Ambassador "Hugo Khouri Galiani" first ambassador accredited to the Dominican Republic in Doha (the first Dominican ambassador in the Gulf).
  • Qatar Embassy in Santo Domingo opened on December 5, 2007 which was appointed to the Ambassador Saud Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to the Dominican Republic on December 5, 2008.


Humanitarian Work

Qatar has provided humanitarian work to the Dominican Rep with a total of US$(2.000.000) two million US dollars during exposure to the hurricane, "Olga" in 2007.



‘HopeFor’ Initiative

The ‘HopeFor’ Initiative is an invitation by the State of Qatar for a worldwide reflection on how to improve the effectiveness and coordination of military and civil defense assets in case of natural disaster.

Supported by Turkey and the Dominican Republic, Qatar will be the host of high level leaders and experts with a mission of assessing the current situation then discussing ways to provide a better response to the increased load besetting the civil defense and the military regarding relief operations.

 

Signed agreements

  • Joint Statement on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the State of Qatar and the Dominican Republic.
  • Protocol of Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign affairs of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign affairs of the Dominican Republic.
  • Memorandum on Tourism Cooperation between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Dominican Republic.
  • Collaboration Agreement between the University of the State of Qatar and Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Dominican Republic.
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the State of Qatar and the Dominican Republic in the field of Air Services.
  • Memorandum of Understanding between Qatar Chamber and Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo.
