HE Pedro Vergés, Minister of Culture received at the head office of the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic, His Excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al - Kawari, Candidate of the State of Qatar for the post of Director General of the United Nations for Education, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and His Excellency Khamis Al-Sahouti, Qatar Ambassador to the Dominican Republic.

During this meeting Dr. Al Kawari outlined the priorities of the importance of the culture that represents the identity of each country because it tells the story of its evolution through time and from its point of view.

Mr. Al Kawari also expressed his sadness to the massive destruction of the historical museums in Iraq and Syria during the war, it was considered a crime not only against the country but also against humanity.

On behalf of the Minister of Culture, I admire the experience of Dr. to the Kawari, and  express my support to him as the best candidate for this important position, because he’s  program and its vision to the mission of UNESCO I so refreshing and very promising at the service of the humanity, and in particular to the vulnerable countries
